ABOUT
Christa Duggan is a Los Angeles–based composer for film, television, and interactive media. Originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, she earned a Master of Music in Screen Scoring from the USC Thornton School of Music in May 2022. While at USC, she was selected for the Thornton Mentorship Program and was privately mentored by singer-songwriter and film composer Randy Newman.
Her musical foundation is rooted in classical training, with private study in composition, percussion, and piano. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Composition from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, graduating summa cum laude, and was among the first students to complete Berklee College of Music’s screen scoring minor following its launch.
Across concert and media work, her writing explores vivid, genre-flexible sound worlds and clear thematic storytelling. Her concert music has been performed by ensembles including the Florida Youth Orchestra, Transient Canvas, Arx Duo, Worcester Chamber Music Society, and Music for Salem, as well as performers affiliated with The Boston Conservatory’s Classical Contemporary Program. She has also composed for interdisciplinary projects involving dance and visual media.
In screen scoring, she has written original music for short films spanning drama, comedy, thriller, animation, and documentary, as well as for video games. Drawn to the collaborative nature of scoring, she works closely with directors to support character, pacing, and tone, shaping a sonic identity that serves the emotional arc of each project. In 2025, her work on the documentary short Boil That Cabbage Down was nominated for Outstanding Music/Sound Design at the Micheaux Film Festival.
Alongside her composing work, she has built extensive professional experience supporting composers on film and tv series productions, serving as a composer assistant to Stephanie Economou, Bobby Villarreal, Jon Monroe, Joy Ngiaw, Stefan L. Smith, and Paul Leonard-Morgan. Her contributions include additional music and arrangements, orchestration and part preparation, music editing, session and deliverable management, and stem delivery across a range of production workflows.
She previously served as Vice President of Operations for Mpath LLC, a woman-owned production music library, where she is also a featured composer. She is also an active member of the Alliance for Women Film Composers.
